I’ve been lovin’ on Sonny And The Sunsets West Coast beachcombers ala Best Coasts, Surfer Bloods, et al: thought they were pretty good band with a built in obsolescence factor.
But I could be wrong.
San Fran’s own Sonny Smith lives in the Sunset District of San Fran according to the Press Release (which is really, really good by the way… are we getting to the place where I would be better off just posting press releases? hardly seems worth the while to rewrite em… except what’s with the 50s R&b reference) nd works with people down on the luck. And this after years as a slower act opening for perennial bores like Neko Case.
Anyway, the band consists of, some of these names we know right?- “Hayde Sartin & Tim Cohen (of the Fresh & Onlys), Tahlia Harbour (of Citay and The Dry Spells), Ryan Browne and Kelley Stoltz (Sub Pop Recordings)” and released Tomorrow Is Alright which was better then I thought it was and a daytrotter session which was much better than I thought it was.
Try “Lovin’ On An Older Gal” -a lo fi arty “Summer Babe” rework.
Also, next week? They are at Mercury Lounge for an 8p set on Thursday.
