Don Kirshner, the legendary promoter behind the Archies, the monkees, and the TV show Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert is dead at 77.
Kirshner began his career in the late 50s, writing TV Jingles with Bobby Darin. From there he moved to the Brill Building and published the music for stuff like “Won’t You Still Love Me Tomorrow”.
In the 60’s, he was the brains behind The Monkees and when the Monkees decided they were a rock group not a TV Sitcom, the Archies!!!
From 1973 to 1981, he was the host of the Don Kirshner Rock Concert -a TV show that had everyone from the Stones to Bowie and beyond perform.
