Sure I am excited for Don Giovanni's annual showcase. It is always a blast and every single band is a must see on the second night.
According to Brooklynvegan (who are only 8 times bigger than us as I write) the first two nights goe like this: "Kicking off with a screening of Dirty Work at the Forum Theatre in Metuchen, NJ on 2/9 (yes, the Norm McDonald/Artie Lange movie) the party will move to Death By Audio on 2/10 for a show with Mikey Erg, House Boat, Nuclear Santa Claust, Secret Police and Plastic Cross. " All good clean fun, no doubt.
However, the real excitement here is For Science reforming. One of my fave bands of all time, the pop punk quarter with guitarist Joe Steinhardt writing some of the greatest songs I've ever heard and Joe Slovan singing them, is more than good news.
I have become friendly with Joe over the years. he really is a terrific guy, and his Modern Hut band's first album Generic Treasure (out in January) will blow you away. He is also one of the owners of Don Giovanni. But if Joe's only achievement was Revenge For Hire and Tomorrow's Just Another Day he'd be a rock and roll hero.
I first heard about For Science around a year after they broke up, and except for some grainy old video, I've never seen them live. Joe has told me they could be weirdly erratic on stage and I am completely thrilled with the opportunity to find out for sure.
I sent some questions to Joe about the reunion and he promises to get back within a couple of days. I consider the February 11th gig the biggest concert of 2012, and unless Led Zep reunite, I'm guessing it will remain so.
