Death Of The Album… Again by Iman Lababedi

For the most part a great length for an album is 25 minutes or, if you prefer, four songs by LCD Sounbdsystem.
LCD’s new  album  isn’t bad but it isn’t good either. The heights are higher than high but a lot of it kinda meanders into bpms. I love bpms but I prefer em on remixes and if we are gonna call This IS Happenning most happenning “I Can Change”, “dunken Girls” like that happenning, can we fall asleep on some of the longer songs. Even at a buck twennty nine I coulda lived with three tracks, maybe four max. And all four would be great and the length woulda be right.
Still it hangs together as an album, I mean, it is an album, just not a great one. Sleigh Bells isn’t an album -it’s a collection of great songs but shoulda be doled out slower… since it only hangs through attitude. It actually reminds me of another first album, For Science’s Revenge For Hire which for all its one minute carping overwhelms you with melodic hit after melodic hit and they coulda saved a coupla bullets here. Both are great but not great albums great collections of songs.
The Hold Steady also sags and doesn’t last, Raymond Vs Raymond and Burrrprint are also collections of songs not albums.
Wolfe? Collection of songs. The Monitor? Album (but it is an exception?)
Seems to me the world is selling an art form that is dead and dying.
