Daft Punk Break Spotify Record!

I liked the new Daft Punk single "Get Lucky" just fine, though perhaps not as much as you did, since Spotify have just announced the song has received the most streams in a day since the subscription services inception.

Before,  the record was held by "Thrift Shop" in the US and Bastilles "Pompeii" in the UK which you gotta think, right? As Obelix might put it, "These English are crazy."

Certainly, if Daft Punk wanted to stake a claim to EDM after a decade in the wilderness, mission appears to be damn close to accomplished. As for Spotify, I was reading an article earlier this year claiming ITunes had missed their opportunity for a subscription service. Apparently, when Jobs was running things, he couldn't get a figure high enough for the labels to bite on, forget about giving em a piece of the action. Still, back then Apple wouldn't have had to give the majors a piece of the action. And now it is too late, the writer claimed (Sorry, I can't find his name) and ITunes have missed the opportunity.

This is, of course, nonsense. Just from their database alone, an ITunes subscription service would blow Spoitfy right off the map. And if ITunes were really smart, they might mix and match it  with a Netflix type movie streaming service. But maybe it would take the sort of leadrship Apple doesn't have right now, with their stock down a whopping 30%, and no new product, after 5.0 didn't do that much and a 5.54 would do much less, where the smaller and IPAD are not getting people to fork over more money. And with the best thing you can hope for is a smart watch since the smart TV isn't doing a damn thing.

As for the Daft Punk song, if all "Get Lucky" really is is a great disco song with a Niles Rodger's guitar on top, it is still enough to grab the world's attention.
