In our continuing effort to give you the latest news days after everybody else, in the vain glorious hope you haven't read it yet, Mathew Knowles, Papa Beyonce, is suing Live Nation, claiming that Live Nation, in an effort to deal themselves into repping her for the 2011 tour, claimed Mathew stole or misappropriated funds from his daughter our her previous tour.
Beyonce had her own people perform an audit and reached the same conclusion.
So Beyonce, pissed at her father for dumping her Mom any way, fired him.
This is a horrid, nasty story and here is the worst part: it hinges on so many fault likes and the biggest one is something Murray Wilson and Joe Jackson should've known as well: for fuck's sake don't rep your family.
Parents should not be their children's manager, they should just say no. It is obviously very very tempting but it is a dire idea, and at the heart of it, it destroys the power delineation.
With Murray and Joe, it lead directly to violence. With Mathew, to theft. Or some variation. When it is your daughters money it must be very easy to see it as one big pocket and when the numbers are huge, and money flows like, well, money tends to, you are playing catch up in a game you can't really afford.
Mathew was Beyonce's manager (not to mention father) since the beginning and he steered her forward, but when we are discussing tens of millions, what is discrete and what is discretionary.
There are no words to describe how terrible money can be. It devours brothers, sister, parents: it is such a powerful motivating force it leaves ruin in its wakes just about always. My own family was ripped to shreds due to money -bad if you have some, bad if you have none. The only way to keep a family safe from money is to leave it entirely out of the equation. There is no such thing as enough, it has ruined more lives then every drug combined: avarice is the governing characteristic of mankind.
If Live Nation and her own auditors (look at that line: Her own auditors????) are right, maybe it is a truth you can live your life without knowing, or fully realizing. How much can he have stolen if Live Nation need to wake you up to it?
