Conor Oberst Sues Woman Who Made Rape Allegations

FUCK anyone who EVER plays the victim, ESPECIALLY when it is something as serious as a rape allegation. Sexual assault crimes are horrific and evil, and falsely accusing anyone of committing one can ruin that person’s life, and severely damage them emotionally.
It absolutely crushes me to see Conor Oberst, indie god and saviour, be accused of raping an anonymous blogger, who was 16 years old at the time. This is to suggest that a decade ago, Oberst’s older brother (an English teacher) introduced the two and from there, Oberst was her “abusive rock star boyfriend”.
As disgusting as this is, I’ve immersed myself in researching even more about the issue, specifically what fellow Oberst fans believe. I found an article talking about a girl who just-so-happened to be 16 and sexually assaulted and saw similarities between the INCREDIBLY VAGUE AND NONSENSICAL STORY THE ANONYMOUS POSTER MADE OF CONOR ‘RAPING’ HER and her own experience with being pressured by an older man. Apparently that was parallel enough to believe the woman (or bored man behind a computer screen was my first impression before further research) who was too afraid to say who she really was when she claimed to have been taken advantage of as a teenager.
This woman, Joanie Faircloth, also states that Bright Eyes is one of her favorite bands and, said that seeing Oberst live was one of the best experiences of her life. Here’s the kicker- her son, by the looks of her Facebook, is incredibly sick and in the hospital all the time. Perhaps she’s just looking for money so she can pay hospital bills? Ya never know, people are disgusting these days.
She still ‘likes’ Bright Eyes on Facebook.
The people defending the woman are also ridiculous. “keep in mind that only about 5% or less of rape accusations are false. This woman is married with children and the rape happened 10 years ago. It doesn’t make sense for her to be fabricating this story… The kind of attention this will bring is something nobody would want. Think about it. Also, Conor was notorious for sleeping with younger girls during that time.” states one bs Tumblrblog. Everyone feels the need to act high and mighty cos they know one little fact that automatically makes this man a rapist.
And, finally, at long last, the woman is being sued. Oberst says he never met her AND that she had written positive things online about Conor and Bright Eyes as recently as January 2013. He’s supposedly suing for over $1 million and claims his reputation has been damaged by her accusations.
Karma, bitch.
