The first concert I ever went to, I was something like 4 years old at the time, was Cliff Richard and The Shadows and so 52 years later I feel a real affinity for the guy. Plus, the guy he was made to emulate, Elvis Presley, has been dead nearly 40 yearsold now and yet here is Cliff: stil doing it, still touring, recording, performing. In the States? I’ve had my eye out for decades but if he has played nyc I must have been asleep at the wheel.
Still, he has played somewhere, sometimes, and this November Cliff Richard will release his 100th album this November!
That is ONE HUNDRED ALBUMS. According to the Guardian: “It includes 47 studio albums, seven film soundtracks, 35 compilations and 11 live albums. Only Richards’ hero Elvis Presley has had more released.”
And the latest one should be fun. Recorded in Nashville, it will be The Great Rock N Roll Songbook , bringing the now 72 year old Cliff back to his roots. Recording again the Everyly Brothers and Presley. Songs that made him famous.
100 albums, that is pretty incredible. You need a helluva lot going for you to manage that and, if memory serves, he was real popular from the late 1950s to the mid 1980s. Then there was the fall off but he never ended up on the chips and scampi circuit.
