Chiodos; Paradise Rock Club, August 13, 2011

I already hated new Chiodos walking into the Paradise Rock Club.  The once fantastic band had dumped Craig Owens and picked up a new vocalist, Brandon Bolmer.  The first and last ime I saw "Chiodos" was more than significantly disappointing.

I was more than willing to give them a chance.  I had an open mind when they walked onstage, ready to see if my original opinion was wrong or not.  I ignored the ego of this "Bolmer", with his pot leaf bandanna.  They came on to the stage and I hated them a good thirty seconds into their first song.

They're not good.  At all.  The musicians are fantastic, because they've all been together for a very very long time.  However, when you and see a band and there's the frontman, you mostly focus on that person because they are in reality the leaders of the band.  There wasn't one.  You could tell that Brandon felt awkward- he tried to come off as cool, but ended up looking like a nervous tool.

Someone in the crowd said "YOU SUCK!" and Brandon responded, "Yeah, I suck?  You can get the fu-k out of here!" and moved into the next song.  Whenever I see bands that get negative criticism like that, which has probably only happened one or two other times, the band didn't respond and continued having fun.  However the negative feedback from the crowd was so immense you could actually feel it.  I was more captivated by the beyond violent audience than the band.

They played an old song, one that had Craig Owens in it, and it was one of my favourite tunes, "Is It Progression If A Cannibal Uses A Fork?"  I was really tempted to just get up and leave.  It was basically just like him doing a cover.  It was so terrible, and he kept on trying to make his voice sound like Craig's throughout the entire set.  It was painful to sit through.
