Charlene Kaye was in Brooklyn Friday night, playing a bowling alley called “Gutter”. And though informed a week ago by, I didn’t get to the email till Saturday morning, and more fool me.
From Ann Arbor via Hawaii, Charlene is modern cabaret singing beautiful, beautifully orchestrated, uber American song book one moment, 70s power pop the next, and then going to town on a bluesy jam to end it all.
Best of all, is the power pop “Oh, Howard” with a count down kick off, it is like Joanie Jett meets Joni Mitchell. Terrific song, terrific vocals. TalenteD woman.
Really sad I missed it.
