Carmen Consoli, the Italian singer-songwriter, is playing at La Poisson Rouge tomorrow. You might not know her, and I’ll admit there is something a little Lilith Fair about her, but the orchestration is excellent and her vocals a unique timbre As though she’s choking a little in the back of the throat and still managing to hold the melody.
Actually, all the arrangements are a little busier than a US s/s would be, but there is something really pretty about her and I bet English language Consoli could crossover pop here. Try “L’ultimo Bacio” (er, “The Ultimate Kiss”)
