If all you know from Caribou is their fine remix of Radiohead's "Little By Little" and by the end of their opening set for Radiohead at Prudential last Friday you may well want to know more. Daniel Victor Snaith is the high octane Canadian wiz j=kid behind the band, and on tour he is joined by two other people.
The set comprises most last years pretty good Swim album (#97 with a bullet!) and at Prudential the sound was unsettling and impeccable, the vibe perfect, but the stage was very dark, there was no close circuit TV and the only time you could figure out what was happening was when searchlights flashed across the stage.
There wasn't much to do during the half hour set but shield your eyes and pass the maddies. The odd times you could see what was happening it appeared quite busy with a drummer and somebody on keyboards frantically pounding out notes and the mood is very powerful, and very hooky. The second song even includes vocals.
By the end of the set, the overwhelming smash down finale "Sun" , with a mix of dance and chants, they've sold me enough to wanna see them with the damn lights on.
Grade: B
