Bring Me The Horizon "Sleepwalking" Reviewed

I had forgotten how much I liked Bring Me The Horizon.  Unsurprisingly, they've sucked me right back into their fanbase.

They released a music video for their new tune “Sleepwaking”, off their upcoming album, Sempiternal, due out on April 2nd.  Oli’s voice has totally emproved.  The first thing I noticed was how much his vocals have gotten better.  He no longer relies on just screaming and has taken more advantage of the fact that he can really push himself to his more notes and expand his range.

The use of the synthesizer is brilliant, too.  It’s not too much but is easily noticeable.  It adds a new edge that I think has already made BMTH one of the better bands in their genre.  Everything is so different- it’s like Oli got a new voice box, the musicians all spent days and months and years just playing their instruments, and the effort they put into this single doesn’t go unnoticed.  The drums are mental, and probably one of the biggest improvements the band’s made in their sound.  Of course, there’s the moment in the tune that I can’t stop listening to.

It’s Oli- singing.  No scratch in his voice, no yelling, just pure singing.  Honestly I didn’t even know it was him.  It absolutely blew me away.  It’s so gorgeous- how does he make such an intense transition is beyond me.  This little 15 second bit of the song is what has made me insanely pumped to listen to their upcoming album.  I had no idea he could sing like that.  He’s like an entirely new man.

As for the video, I kind of don’t even want to mention it.  It’s pretty boring.  The only plus is the cuteness of the boys.  The story doesn’t really hold anyone’s attention because it’s too subtle and mediocre.  However, it’s really pretty-looking and has some cool effects.  Other than that, it’s nothing noteworthy.

Regardless, BMTH is back and in action!  I can’t wait for Sempiternal; it’s sure to be their best release yet.
