And then there was emo.
In the early 00s I would go to emo concerts at Roseland, mini fests with bands like Taking back Sunday and Brand New and other, smaller local, grunge melody mish mosh with long titles and the occasional hook. At least that was my take.
But ten years later, the frenzy over Brand New tickets on their current tour is really bewildering; they are not a band I would expect to cause so much affection in anyone. While they are emotional boys, the close harmonies and loud-quiet entwined footsie of emo won’t get you so far.
Or maybe it will. I don’t get it but you can’t love everything and I don’t love FOB or Panic or these guys, they leave me cold, the melodies don’t do it for me and there is no perk or good humor in the guys. Jesse Lacey may be the second coming of something but it sure ain’t rock and so when I heard about them playing four dates this December it made zero impact. But suddenly rock nycers were freaking out trying to get a gig and billets were changing hands for 100s of dollars and then… it reached its natural saturation point somewhere on Craigslist.
“Straight female is ready to bj a guy/possibly sex a guy up for Brand New tickets.” Funnily enough, this is hardly new, last year women were offering sex for Stone tickets, but cmon Brand New ain’t the Stones, and the entire tone of the ad is pretty wild. I mean, what is “Sex a guy up” exactly?

Brand New are not particularly prolific, their last album was in 2009and since they’ve only got four albums they could perform an album plus B Sides etc, a concert for an East Coast/ West Coast. A smart idea and certainly who knows if they could have predicted such a response. A little further down a straight guy is offering to suck dick for tix to both nights. Obviously, Brand New haveto take the concept on the road, but till then “if you’re lonely and looking for a mouth to fuck with your dick…”
