When it comes to morals and music I am a complete agnostic. Last year I reviewed music by a racist hardcore label (stuff like “17 N—– Heads in My Refrigerator”) and after reading how about how the wilding incident following the car show on easter Sunday was followed by Blood members rapping on youtube.com
So I went in search.
I found some stuff, for instance this video: which sounds excellent and looks the right color but there is somebody in blue at one point. A real no no in the world of gangs. So this may be a fake. But fake or not, and despite a seemingly never ending problem with the lack of great rapping out there, the backing track is ominous and pretty.
Watching a 2008 video by Bloods member Young Hootie “Lock The Streets Down (Blood rap)” you get the point fast. There is so much menace here it makes modern hip hop look like what it is: a form of entertainment. Very milatristic, very riding on just two notes through the end, very real stuff. On the first song is rappin’ with his posse but the second song Young Hootie is freestyling to a great double rhythmed sample. Young Hootie is a West Coast rapper but… and I’m looking East Coast.
So so far I can’t find what I’m looking for: the motherlode of Eastcoast really real gangster rap…
I’ll keep you updated…
