According to Mike Riedel of the post, Bono and the Edge are in town to view the damage of their broadway disaster Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark.
Here is Mike’s suggestion as to how the fix the show:
* Write a proper opening number.
* Ditch the annoying Geek comic-book chorus.
* Cut Arachne’s embarrassing and campy shoe-shopping number.
* Come up with an ending that packs a little more punch than dropping a giant-size Spider-Man shower curtain.
* Send Reeve Carney to acting school.
* Hire a new bookwriter. (Arthur Laurents?)
here are some of mine:
1. Write more and better songs.
2. More action sequence like the one that ends act one.
hang about, here is a New york times update, the boys caught the show on tuesday -so I am happy to note I was not the only person to have a crap day.
And finally, Bono on Spiderman, giving the term delusional whole new vistas of meaning:
“We’re wrestling with the same stuff as Rilke, Blake, ‘Wings of Desire,’ Roy Lichtenstein, the Ramones – the cost of feeling feelings, the desire for connections when you’re separate from others. If the only wows you get from ‘Spider-Man’ are visual, special-effect, spectacular-type wows, and not wows from the soul or the heart, we will all think that we’ve failed.”
