I am truly a Dylan fanatic, i own everything. When The Bootleg Series Vol 1 – 3, I bought that and I also bought the Real Bootleg Series -a truly excellent boot!! I own every official release (including a cassette version of Dylan), dozens of live shows. I have a working knowledge of every one of his albums and i am as comfortable with Knocked Out Loaded as i am with Freewheeling.
So I worship these professionals boots from 1962 – 1964, there to sell the product to mainstream folkies who don’t write their own stuff.
But if you don’t own everything from Bob Dylan to Another Side, what the fuck do you want this for? These are very precise evocations of song meant to be copied. They are not the originals by any stretch. 30 of these songs are worthless to people who are anything but fanatics. Of the other 18, 10 are must owns by every one and the other 8 are fair to middling.
If you wanna invest a coupla bucks try “Guess I’m Doing Fine”, “Mama You’ve Been on My Mind” and “Farewell”. Maybe “Walking Down The Line”.
If you wanna get specialized? Buy the superior Vols 1 – 3.
