2- Sexual Powertrip- another from History for Sale. I once told Iman if there was 1 song by Blue October to hear this was it. The depth of music is raw power, the lyrics are real life. “I’ll keep on licking til your flavor is gone’ and “don’t trust my words when I’m in bed with you “open your legs and I’ll promise you, but you didn’t notice that my ankles were crossed”… JUSTIN WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
3- Shes My Ride Home- From the lp foiled. A kinder gentler Justin. I love the voice here. Just a slight distortion. “hey we can hid the bodies on the ride home’. Always a sinister undertone to the most innocent of songs. Genius.
4- Razorblade, yet another from History for Sale and an anthem if ever there was one. Again I’m singling out lyrics ‘its you that took my first away from me”, and ‘a brief bout with a razorblade cut me, I freaked out thinking people didn’t love me”, my God a tortured and brilliant artist. ‘theres no forgivness for you, you sick fuck’
5-Balance Beam- from Approaching Normal. Loved this live (though mostly pre recorded)now here Mr Furstenfeld schools you boys on how to be a man. Chokes me up every time ‘this is not another love song’ the Magpie and I use this as criteria 1- you gotta take it kinda slowly, 2-you gotta hurry up and make your move, 3- you gotta tell her that’s shes pretty.4- ya gotta be the perfect gentleman 5- you gotta show her shes the balance beam. Nice nice nice.. you wonder why I’m so in love with this guy???
6- X Amount of Words- from Foiled. A techno dance attempt. Sexy as hell. ‘your heart is prosthetic.
7- 3 Weeks She Sleeps- History for Sale on heavy heavy random rotation! sweet calm and pretty. omg talk about beast..seriously .. la di da ahh
8- You Make Me Smile- Foiled, I first heard this song and blew my speaker in my car so I only heard the right side. HA! worth it. This song has gotten me through tons of adversity, tons of bullshit tons of lies “my words they pour like children to the playground”. Matter of fact I’m gonna hit repeat on this one.
9-Drilled a Wire Through My Cheek- Foiled. This is nearly a weekly quote on my Facebook page. This song scares me its sinister, its dark and its sung throughout clenched teeth. Which I would KILL to unclench… yeah…uh…
10- Should Be Loved- Approaching Normal. “Stop staring you’re the reason I feel so unhappy all the time’ the best opening line of all time. This song is the perfect song for this week. This week wasn’t good my buds, not at all ‘my heart was broken so I threw it against the wall’. If there was a way to dedicate a song to someone like sending it via carrier pigeon THIS would be on a flight North RIGHT NOW. Fucking amazing song. Its a statement of fact. OMG I’m so fucking psyched to see them live again and I want to catch every fucking tour stop Are you getting it yet?? Are you feeling Blue October yet??
