Amazing, this acoustic plea is the sound of a absolutely broken man. Sometimes being manic really works. “can you pretend I’m amazing, instead of what we both know”. Self depreciation brings all the girls to the yard.
Retarded Disfigured Clown- This is a spoken word piece. Profound, yeah intriguing perhaps. Justin has a twang, being a Texan I guess that’s whats to be expected. If you’re ever feeling arty blue, check it
18th Floor- From Foiled the lp that put Blue October on the map with hate me. I love the line ‘your head is on my stomach and we’re trying so hard not to fall asleep’. This song captures the insecurity of love and the hope that moments never end. His vocals squeak, its adorable
Libby I’m Listening- They say Libby was a groupie. This plucky bas heavy rocker usually gets the FF arrow from me but today I like it, simply for the reason that I can hear Justin inhale through clenched teeth. I told you I was obsessed.
Somebody- One of the harder rock outs by the guys. Most feel Blue October whines too much. He sorta does but shut up. But the band can also rock insanely. Not enough for me to bust out air guitar but enough to consider a fist pump. Consider, not actually do. Jeremy, Justin’s kid brother and by far the sweetest guy in the band is a kickin drummer and never gets props so I’m gonna hand um here cuz he gets nuts on this one. Hi Jer!
You Make Me Smile-This is a trippy little jaunt. But a positive sentiment not often gotten from the pen of Furstenfeld. Cant help but think there’s a sinister underside
*The End- OK this is good. This song scared the crap out of me. I am not a censor by any means. But the Magpie is not allowed to listen to this, so lets hope they don’t play it tonight (they had played it last May its sick live) or I will have to throw her to the floor and cover her ears. Its graphic images and pure fury is so clearly delivered that anyone who’s been done wrong in love is going to be impacted. Again, it could be my obsession that makes this so powerful, but again..who cares. Its an awesome song.
Now if I could just be done with this work day and get on the road.
