Bloody Flaming Lips Wayne Coyne -by Alyson Coyne

Wayne Coyne never failed to entertain people with crazy ideas, and he always had a thing with blood, fake blood usually, but this time he used real blood to ‘print’ a poster. He actually did a stencil representing a skull for a October 2010 Austin city limits poster using his own blood, and the operation was filmed. I thought it was just a fun idea, but the point of it? I’m not sure.

Nevertheless, Coyne is well known for dripping fake blood down his face during concert, spoiling his white suit every night, and he has justified this as a homage to a very famous picture of Miles Davis who got blood all over his pale yellow suit after the police had beaten him during a show because he was resisting police arrest.

Wayne Coyne, who has posed numerous times with blood all over his face for magazines, elaborated by saying that it was not really possible to tell that Davis had got blood on him since his hair and his complexion were very black, and that this light-colored suit, spattered with the blood, was the only indication he was heavily bleeding. In an interview, he added:
‘It’s just a strange image. There’s something about the dignity of being civilized and wearing this suit, and the stark contrast of the brutality and the blood.’

So I’m not sure the last blood stencil experiment has such a deep and profound meaning, but what’s the hell, it is just fun:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWOYXFU5boQ
