Following the tragedy in Oklahoma recently, Blink-182 has stepped up and are using their fame for a good cause.
They’re auctioning off signed items on eBay. 100% of all proceeds go to benefit those in OK. This has to be one of the coolest things ever. That’s so thoughtful of them, giving up money they could be using to buy things for themselves or the band and donating it to those who really need it; the world needs more of that.
Included in the list of items being sold is a limited edition painted Blink bunny- the current highest bid is above 1 thousand dollars. A lot of people are getting on this. Blink knows that their star power can make any signed item infinitely more expensive, let alone memorabilia symbolic of the band themselves.
Also, a tour poster signed by the band is going for a bit over $400 now. The best, though? Mark Hoppus signature bass signed by Mark and Travis. Take your guess how much it’s worth, cos I bet you wouldn’t assume $2,175.
Musicians who want to make a difference in a community that is not their own and selflessly give is a wonderful thing, regardless of whether or not you assume they’re doing it for the press. What Blink 182 has done was recognise that they could make a serious difference, which this auction will do. However much money they end up raising, it will certainly be helpful to those in Oklahoma. This has made me gain some serious respect for the band, and it sets the bar higher for others in the scene to take a stand as well.
