James Cameron and the Black Eyed Peas? What a strange combination I first thought.
Cameron, the super-billionaire mega-director with a temper is going to make a 3D concert documentary about the Black Eyed Peas touring in South America,
Will.i.am. said to Vibe magazine: ‘We have the biggest director, because we are the biggest group on the planet. People will be able to see us in the theatre with the 3D glasses and everything, ‘
He was kidding right? About them being the biggest group on the planet? I know, they have probably sold zillions of singles (a million of download for their last single in the UK only!), but I could not tell, I never listen to them, it’s beyond repetitive, uninventive and that song ‘I gotta feeling’ gives me a headache after the 5 first seconds. And why do they still call themselves a Hip Hop band?
And Will.i.am continues ‘There will be a storyline that [Cameron] came up with, which will be dope, it’s a full-length film and it’s based around our tour activities. We’ve toured from America and Europe, to the Middle East, South America, Asia and Africa. It’s not like we go, ‘Yo, we are international, you know what I’m saying? London and Paris!’ Nah, that’s just two cities. We want to go across the planet.’
But after further reflection, Cameron and the Peas are perfect for each other, big ego, big money and both are marketing whores: the Black Eyed Peas’ songs have appeared in every stupid movie ever made in Hollywood, in numerous video games, advertisements and MTV series, and Cameron has partnered with one of the biggest corporation, McDonald’s in a global promotion for his film Avatar. So next year, prepare your 3D glasses, and buy your Fergie happy meal in every McDonald’s of the planet, or of the next one.
