So the Big 4 of thrash metal came together on the big screen. The long awaited mini-tour featuring Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax was showen in movie theaters
around the world this past Tuesday. The show was filmed earlier that day in Sofia, Bulgaria and then edited down to 4 hours for the movie audience.
I thought Metallica and Anthrax were great. Never saw Anthrax live, but after seeing this show, I wish I did back in the day.
Megadeth was a bore. Dave Mustaine did not sound good at all. As for Slayer, I was never a fan so I can comment good or bad on them.
The highlight of the night was towards the end of Metallica’s set, they brought out the other 3 bands and they jammed on “Am I Evil?” This is the Diamond Head classic that Metallica covered on their first album, “Kill E’m All”. James Hetfield (Metallica), Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) and Joey Belladonna (Anthrax) all took turns with the singing. The other guys were all playing guitars and bass, and the drummers were slamming on snare drums. Truly something for every metal/hard rock fan should witness.
This show was also filmed for a DVD to be released later this year.
The pic is from my camera phone. Before Metallica’s set, they had some of the band members talk about the late great Ronnie James Dio. In this pic are Lars from Metallica, Scott Ian from Anthrax and Dave Mustaine.
