Best Songs Through January 31st, 2013

This year I plan to do a better job of figuring out what I love most by doing less of a job on what I like best. The top ten songs are in order of preference, the rest of the songs are order in which I added (more or less!)

 1. Gradual Return – Trixie Whitley –  The best song of her career making debut album was worth the weight. Blues yes, but blues by a pop sensibility,

 2. Definition Of Down – Teena Marie – Any complaints about weak songs on her final album are irrelevant. This is a full blooded disco ballad and nobody else does it any more.

 3.  January – Bikini Kill meets Eno.

 4. I Don’t See You Laughing Now – Marshall Crenshaw – Offically a 2012 song, but very late 2012.

 5.  I Still Yearn – Jahn Xavier And the Bowertytones – Not actually released yet but wait till it is.

 6. 1Train – ASAP Rocky –  The wittiest take down of poverty.

 7.  Bats – The Joy Formidable 0- I love this rocker so much, I may have overestimated the album!

 8. Cool Zombie – Adam Ant – Killer lead off song on the really excellent new album.

 9. Lose To Win – Fantasia – Her best single to date is pure disco diva.

 10. Because We Can – Bon Jovi – Undeniable, and trust me I’ve tried, singalong.

In The End – Black Veil Brides

 I  Got A Boy – Girls generation
