Alessio Natalizia is Banjo’s or Freakout, the DFA Recording artist and DJ.
This is what he said to thequietus.com “I started as a noise project but now I prefer to write real songs with a verse chorus verse chorus structure. [laughs] I started the band rather than talk to my girlfriend’s flatmates! When I started to come to visit London to see my girlfriend I didn’t really know anyone and I’m not really that social. And she had a laptop; I’d never had one in my life. And one day I was waiting for her and I opened the laptop and started to play around with it. It started with me just sampling stuff and using GarageBand. “
Alessio is from a small Italian coastal village and on his terrific cover of NDF’s equally terrific “Since We Last Met”, his roots seem to show in the tracks fluidity.
I missed the boat on NDF, the EP was released in August but I just caught up downloading three remixes and the radio edit. They are really terrific with a synth lick looping in the background. It sounds like atmospheric indie rock.
DFA Records released it, of course. How can you love every artist on a label?
I love everybody on
DFA
Bridgetown
Odessa
Don Giovanni
All I have to do is hear a band record for one of em and I am half way there.
Alessio’s remix of NDF adds a humming liquidity, ambient like track in the back which soundss like the sun rising on a beach. Pretty gorgeous stuff.
