So in my never ending pursuit to find music that doesn’t suck I embarked upon a journey to discover with ‘dubcore’ was. I like hardcore, I like dub…….gotta be a combo right? Well I don’t know yet but in that pursuit I stumbled across a pretty nifty tool. Nice little side dish to my earlier record deal post. GarageBand.com. So I check the FAQ and get ‘operated by iLike’… huh?
OK here’s what iLike is:”iLike is a social music discovery service and the dominant music application on the Facebook, Google, Orkut, hi5 and Bebo platforms.”
hmmm I’m feeling less and less indie as I progress.
So then i see,
“iLike, inc was acquired by MySpace in September 2009, and is now a fully owned subsidiary of MySpace.” great… But what about GarageBand? Aren’t THEY for the little guy? Aren’t they ‘fighting ‘THE MAN”… well no
“iLike, inc also runs indie music site GarageBand.com.”
OK so let me get this straight (or someone out there set me straight) Myspace owns iLIke…and GarageBand.
Now I’m concerned cuz why is it “i” instead of ILike… why the lower case i? The smaller print indicates that they are not affiliated with Apple. So News Corp andn Rupert Murdoch now owns myspace, and Fox right?
Wait so Garageband is a sibling of Fox?.
Let me reel in my confusion and my X Files snooping skills to bring this farce right on down to ground zero.
GarageBand.com
Is a pretty fun site. Chose a genre’, have a listen, write a review. If you’re a musician.. hell, put your stuff up on it and get some fans. All’s well, free MP3’s little bio’s cute pictures.
I feel sick. Everything leads back to Glee and American Idol.
