August Burns Red is an amazing band in several ways. One of my favorite songs by them is “White Washed”. Coincidentally, they released a live version of the song on their MySpace recently so I checked it out and it is good but there are some minor things that didn’t sit well with me.
First off, both in the live and studio versions of the song, it is played very well by each member with little or no change to the sound. That is really good due to the fact that to me, it is angering when a band’s sound is all in the studio and when you go to see them live and you are expecting something remarkable, it turns out to sound awful or just not the same. That isn’t the case with this song. Comparing the two versions, they both sound quite similar. The guitar, drums, and bass all sound wonderful, especially the drums which are just very catchy in this song and go great with the song.
The one thing that seemed ‘off’ to me is the singer’s voice. It is slightly different live from the studio version, and I personally don’t like it that much. While that may be a minor problem, to some people, like me, the vocals in the song are a huge part of the band’s overall sound. Aside from that problem, the live version is still incredible and very addicting. I could listen to it over and over.
