Four years before Ray Charles released his duet with Johnny Cash on “Crazy Old Soldier”, the two recorded Kris Kristofferson ‘s ‘Why Me, Lord” with country legend Billy Sherrill producing.
The recording has been discovered and will be released on a Ray Charles rarity album next year.
In a letter to Charles, Johnny wrote: “”I hope you like this tape. I realise that the orchestration isn’t big and I don’t sing very good, but I think the thing has a feeling and a quality that the fans would really enjoy.”
