Still on a Disney Mission to Mars adventure Angels and Airwaves unveil “Love”.
Upon first listen I thought perhaps this is the type of music you have to be in the right mood for. But by the time I decided to ‘try again later’, up comes “The Flight of Apollo”, and zip. DeLonges annoying nerdy voice- somehow transforms to story teller. He speaks lyrics with enough lilt to not stick it into a spoken word scenario. “Life doesn’t hurt so badly’ as bad ass as he is in Blink is as much of a sentimental sap he is in AVA. Its a Jekyll Hyde scenario on pop music drumbeats.
The whole twittery electronica that goes on can at first be distracting but the genuine rock out of the music itself produces a great balance and did I mention violins?
“Young London”, has an AC/DC intro, this I believe is the guitarist shot and being the lead.
Without a doubt nearly every song sounds ‘the same’ aside from a slight nuance that catches your ear. This is not a bad thing. Its an energetic unique sound that will quite honestly never catch on. Is a great side project, very niche’. But what Angels and Airwaves does offer is some of the best lyrics of matters of the heart. Hard to believe from the same guy whose frat boy humor had me leaving before the Blink set ended last August.
Lyrically DeLonge, gets it. Its almost as if he should wear a disguise so the guys back at the house don’t find out what a pussy he is.
“Epic Holiday” offers National Geographic film soundtrack. I can totally see soaring in a hang glider as an attraction in this travel film. But is peppy and happy but again, the lyrics are where you need to be. This would be the fun song on the release if it weren’t for the story going on behind the bubble gum.
Not every song has distinction to be singled for review as they are all similar. I can say “Soul Survivor (2012)” aint my cup of tea. But could be yours.
“Letters to God (part 2)” made me first wonder why everyone writes to God and if so whats his address and whats postage for that? But again you need the lyrics:
“And like one would, like a child
I’m asking
Like I could knock on your door
Will you let me in?
And dear God, I found out the same things we learn when We die
I found out the truth is its all a big lie
I find that the words are hard to describe
I tell you I’m lost here, awaiting reply
I found out whats wrong, and its not you or i
Or anyone else that you chose tonight
It seems like the madness of choice in the life
Has made it all clear if we run or we hide”
Now this is from the same guy who ranted how each guy in Blinks audience should attempt to get a blow job that night. Yeah… he’s bipolar.
Do I like “Love”?, yup I absolutely do. I’ll most likely spend a part of today searching up the lyrics and putting them into perspective.
I do have to laugh at the cds final song ‘Some Origins of Fire”. The chorus of ‘we all are love and love is hard, we’re hard to love’. OK, maybe it is the Blink guy after all!
I’m kidding.. the saps final statement on that chorus ‘So here’s my heart’.
awwww
