An Ode To Sid Vicious

I think that Sid Vicious is totally misjudged and is one of the coolest people to ever exist in the history of the world. Hear me out.

I read Sid Vicious' biography and became fascinated with him and his life. However, I'm not exactly sure why. I think it's the scandal. Everyone talks about how he killed Nancy or was a heroin addict or was in a terrible band, etc. No one cares enough to research further, and that bothers me. Sid was absolutely misunderstood, and it's no mystery as to why. I mean, no one really knows how Nancy died and we all know Sid died of a heroin overdose. People judge and hate what they don’t get, and it’s so easy to pass judgment on someone who did drugs and was accused of crimes and played punk music.

Regardless, Sid didn't kill Nancy. There are thousands of theories, but I know in my heart he cared enough about her and loved her too much. He wrote her dorky love letters and wasn't even that sappy a guy. Also, Sid was such a sweetheart that put on a badass facade. I mean, Sid was passed out in that Chelsea Hotel room on Tuinal, and meanwhile all about him were drug dealers and friends of Nancy who came and went as they pleased from room 100. The odds of it being Sid are none. If there’s anyone who actually thinks Sid killed her hasn’t done research and there’s no justifiable logic for that theory. Because it’s 100% wrong.

His innocence and naivety is what made him so cool. He went from a SuperFan of The Sex Pistols, to a member of 'em. He climbed the ladder and became a big name in the punk scene, and he was named after a freakin' hamster because Lydon and him couldn't have the same name without being confused. He was cool simply because he wasn't.

I've heard him referred to as "talentless" and "not a figure", but that's so untrue. Sid wasn't really a musician, and punk wasn't really about the music; it was all about the message, it was a way of live that Sid embraced and utilised to make himself the person that he wanted to be. Joining The Sex Pistols shaped who he was, and in turn, he because a figure for even the punk scene today.

Sid Vicious made it possible for anyone to be a punk rocker. In Sid we trust.
