An Attempt To Review Every Significant 45 Of 1969 by Mike Nessing

45 rpm’s of 1969-Unshuffled

1969-The Stooges
This is like listening to a pissed off Bo Diddley. Great Wah wah pedal on the intro, with a delay effect? Smokin’ guitar.
2002 A hit Song-The Free Design
I so totally love the recording, but the song is kinda hokey for me.

21st Century Schizoid Man-King Crimson
This record must’ve scared a lot of people.

A Boy Named Sue-Johnny Cash
Amazing brushes on the drum kit. The very definition of “feel”.

A Brand New Me-Jerry Butler
Amazing vocals by the iceman. The string section seems kinda unnecessary or maybe just too loud.

A Salty Dog-Procol Harum
More incredible drums. BJ Wilson. Strings are beautiful here.

Abraham, Martin and John-Smokey Robinson And The Miracles
The intro was very promising, especially that immaculate vocal blending. But when it goes all up tempo I got kinda lost.

Ain’t It Funky Now-James Brown
Love how there’s just the slightest bit of restraint on this track.

Albatross-Fleetwood Mac
Wikipedia says this song inspired The Beatles, “Sun King” but ill be damned if it doesn’t sound like they just stole it outright

Am I The Same Girl-Dusty Springfield
Funny, I think that brass bit is more famous than the song itself. Dusty hits some amazing high notes here, but making it sound so soulful in the process.

Ando Mejo Desligado-Os Mutantes
Like Free Design , but funkier.

Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In-The 5th Dimension
Digging the bass and the handclaps at the end. Those vox too, of course

Are You Growing Tired Of My Love-Status Quo
I grew tired of this about half way through.

Baby I’m For Real-The Originals
Wow. This is very beautiful. Marvin Gaye could really write ‘em.

Baby, Its You-Smith
Cool interpretation of the Bacharach tune. Delivery is more like an aggressive torch song . More proof that songs with commas in the title rule.
