Well, let me tell you something, nature is nature, death happens, and thanatocoenosis (accumulation of dead organisms) is more than common, in fact it happens all the time.
Do not adjust your TV, or rather adjust it, it is natural, there are no more die-off events in the world than usual, it was just a slow day news for the media, and seeing that the story picked the interest of the public, they looked for more and more, until they build up their Armageddon scenario,….
But if I want to see signs of the end of the world, signs of the apocalypse, I would rather look elsewhere, like in the pop music culture:
– Sometimes, the fact that ‘I Gotta Feeling’ by The Black Eyed Peas has sold over 6,000,000 copies in the US, and has become the highest selling digital single in the US ever, makes me lose any hope for the future. I hate everything that the BEP have ever done, but this song is particularly dooming our species.
– Justin Bieber, he is everywhere, every teenager around his age wants to have the same haircut, look like him, and every grow-up wants to record a song with him. I never thought doom day would have the face of a prepubescent teen with the most annoying voice.
– Lady Gaga’s culminating exposure with that famous meat dress, and her declaring ‘It is a devastation to me that I know my fans who are gay … feel like they have governmental oppression on them. That’s actually why I wore the meat tonight’, … er? I never got her explanation, and wearing rotting flesh as an outfit is a true end-of-the-world vision.
– Prince’s insane declaration that the Internet was completely over. He has always been nuts anyway but that was the coup de grace. Announcing such a thing is totally an apocalyptic vision, and by the way, his career may be over too.
– How can Katy Perry be still number one in the US singles chart? She cannot sing, and her auto-tuned-to-the-max voice with her falsely prude airs are just a curse for humanity!
– Elton John may have been one of the angels of the apocalypse when he declared this in an interview: ‘I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems’… That was a true revelation!
– When ‘Hey, Soul Sister’ by Train becomes the number #1 iTunes selling song and the 2nd overall best selling song in the US (that was the case in 2010), you may wonder whether the end is close.
– 2010 has been the year of canceled concerts, countless artists had to cancel for slow ticket sales, or other tragic events,… yeah that is an apocalyptic time for the music industry.
– His death was probably a sign of the end of a time, but the success of ‘This Is It’, or Michael Jackson the resurrection, is probably an even more telling sign. The film grossed more money than any documentary film ever (more than $71 million) and made of Jackson a much more richer man dead than alive.
– Kanye West, anything he does has some cataclysmic potential, he is his own personal Apocalypse! But just watch his videos! There is destruction, debauchery, death, and it’s filled with elements of mythology… he is the poster boy of Armageddon.
