So here we are, winding down my Warped Adventure. I’m sad, so sad in fact that I’m actually using some apostrophe’s… I don’t know where they go.. How am I doing?
So lets talk about Alesana, shall we?
I have seen this band twice on Warped, once in a club. Three times now, and every time I am more entranced. Why?
What is about these guys that just takes a hardcore fan and keeps them in their grasp. Why are bands like Korn enjoying mega stardom.
Why not these guys?
Shawn Mike, vocalist / guitarist has the most beautiful pitch. “Chipmunk” I’ve heard it called but to me its a perfect contrast to the thumping bass. Intricate almost spiraling guitar work is perplexing. How the hell can fingers move that fast?
Dennis Lee? Sexiest growler of all time if you ask me. We have met the band but standing in the pit Sunday just below stage level, I was drawn like a moth to flame to Lee. Confidence not lacking there. Confidence shows in Shawn Mikes face in the above picture. He knew the chicks in the pit were enjoying the view…
Alesana, strong band of men drenched in sweat and adrenaline.
Alesanas latest release “The Emptiness”, is a story book. A dark storybook that takesa moment to settle into but well worth hearing out.
It is a masterpiece that will never get its accolades. Unless we give it to them. Help me do that. If you are a fan of ‘screamo’ or ‘hardcore’ or even ‘old school metal’, take a jaunt over to their myspace and have a listen.
If you have only 10 minutes, ok Ill give you two songs to seek out try “The Thespian” or “The Apology”, the later from their 2008 release.
I absolutely adore these guys. They are my hardcore band of the Summer of 2010.
Pure genius making insanity seem brilliant…. hell, I thought only I could do that.
