Van Morrison? I haven’t seen him on stage since early March 2009, so, really, knocking on five years. Though he was so great that time, performing Astral Weeks, performing a “Slim Slow Slider” for the ages that it might very well keep you satiated for years. Just not five years. So his show at the Theater at Madison Square Garden on Monday is more than a giving thanks, it is a benediction. Rumor has it, this may be his farewell tour. You have to hope not.
Monday – David Byrne – T5 – Doing his lousy musical about Imelda Marcos but to help the Phillipines
Tuesday – One Direction – Rumsey Field – GMA gig, I bet there will a lot of girls there.
Tuesday – Cults – Webster Hall – I preferred em when I didn’t know who they were but they still ain’t bad.
Wednesday – Lauryn Hill – Bowery ballroom – I’ve been burned so bad by this chick, but a 6pm dppr and a 1030p second show? She must get on stage at a reasonable time.
Wednesday – Frank Turner – T5 – Billy Bragg for the young generation and he’s got something to say
Wednesday – Slayer – Theater At MSG – You gotta wonder if these guys cans till do it 30 years later. I say yes.
Saturday – Owl – Mercury Lounge – rock nyc interviewee Chris Wyse leaves his day job at home and gets his sonic boom on.
Sunday – Herman Hermits – Bb King – There’s a kind of hussssssh…
