Now that we can no longer be Bon Iver fans, maybe it is time to turn our attention to Justin Vernon’s ambient wall of sound moody music Volcano Choir. Volcano Choir’s new album Repave is taking some getting used and who you expect minimal crowd surfing from at Webster Hall on Saturday night, still you don’t wanna be caught not looking like you were for Justin’s previous band.
Monday – Tomas Doncker band – The Blue Note – The entire True Groove Family will be there to celebrate three new releases. Two sets. Go to both.
Monday – Laura Marling – MHOW – If you haven’t seen her live yet, see the soon to be lendendary English folkie now
Monday – King Krull – Bowery Ballroom – Happy 19th birthday to the neo soul Billy Bragg wannabe
Tuesday – Kendrick Lamar – Williamsburg Park – This month’s hip hop sensation.
Tuesday – Spiritualized – Webster Hall – ladies and Gentlemen, they are treading water in space
Tuesday – Arms – Mercury Lounge – My fave indie rock band … five years ago
Wednesday – Blink 182 – MHOW – Big band, small club, quick sell out, If I had gotten a tix I would have gone but not willing to scalp for em
Wednesday – Girls Against Boys – Bowery Ballroom 0- Garage rockers who were the best big thing for around five minutes or so. Still should kick it live.
Wednesday – The Yardbirds – BB Kings – Well, some of the Yardbirds should be there.
Thursday – Violent Femmes – Rumsey Field – Still blistering after all these years
Thursday – Pere Ubu – Reeling from the death of their bassist Tim Wright, the band reforms and regroups again
Thursday – Tommy Keene – Iridium – Of the three big power poppers, Keene came in third. But how bad can that be?
Friday – Saxon – BB Kings – Heavy metal the old fashioned way
Saturday – Blue October – Irving Plaza – Only a mother could love these emo boys.
Saturday – Jahn Xavier And The Bowerytones – Yes, You come to life.
Saturday – Screaming Females – MHOW – The last time I saw em (and I used the term loosely) they were helping close down Maxwell’s. This is probably an easier sighting.
Sunday – Eyehategod – Rock ‘s Off Concert cruise Series – With the recent death of drummer Joey La Caze, the metalcore band are recovering from their loss on stage
