For  The Julie Ruin’s debut album release party, the calling card here is Kathleen Hanna of course. The former Bikini Kill lead singer riot grrrl etc etc has returned from seven years of lyme disease with a brand new band and album, Run Fast. The first two singles are terrific but streaming it on NRP, it doesn’t sustain the same level of raucousness.  Still, as a guy who never saw either Bikini Kill or Le Tigre, the Tuesday Bowery Ballroom gig is an event show.

Monday – Haim – Webster Hall – May I please pass on this particular hype? I saw em open for Mumford And Sons and wasn’t very excepted by the all girl alt rock LA band. On the other, you might be thrilled by the opportunity to catch em live.

Tuesday – Dr. Dog – Mercury Lounge – On the plus side, it is Dr. Dog at Mercury Lounge. On the minus side, it is DR. DOG at the Mercury Lounge.

Thursday – Blake Shelton – PNC Bank Center – I might even have gone to Jones Beach for this. PNC is just too far. But if you are in the area, this is one of the good country r-r-r-r-rednecks.

Thursday – King – Le Poisson Rouge – I’ve been waiting for this one, and, indeed, I am blowing off Alunageorge to catch the terrific r&b band.

Thursday – Alunageorge  Bowery Ballroom – UK EDM duo but a really good one

Friday – Depeche Mode – Barclay Center – Just because I WILL BE THERE, doesn’t mean I should be there. Never seen em before so I guess we will see.

Friday – John Prine – Bowery Ballroom – With Roseanne Cash, Prine bores me and God knows what Cash thinks she’s doing any more. Still….

Saturday –  Cher Lloyd –  Best Buy – New bad girl pop star with a hit single under her belt.

Saturday – The Allman Brothers – Jones Beach – Always a pleasure.

Saturday – Alan Jackson – MGM Grand – Why on earth is the country great so close and yet not playing the area? I don’t get it.

Saturday – Fall Out Boys – Barclay Center – Mary Magpie’s opinion notwithstanding, their problem remains the same as ever: They wouldn’t recognize a  melody at a Melody Meet And Greet Convention.

Saturday – Lee Rocker – BB Kings –  The line up for the former Stray Cat is pretty awesome: Robert Gordon, Al Kooper, rev Horton Heat. I wish I was going to this instead.
