I am in at least two minds over the Bob Dylan Americana show at Jones Beach. In one, I am gonna blow it off entirely because I just know it is gonna suck and in the other I am going to go and be disappointed. So my final decision will have much to do with the weather on Saturday and my mood. Wilco and Beck are opening so that’s pretty cool but neither are important enough to get me to Jones Beach in themselves … I don’t know, I can’t read it.
Monday – Bruce Springsteen – AMC Cinema – The screening of the Ridley Scott produced fan based “SpringSteen And I”.
Monday – San Cisco – Bowery Ballroom – I saw the indie power pop band from Australia at CMJ last year and was very impressed.
Monday – Jose Feliciano and Anton Fig – Iridium – That should be an interesting little mix.
Monday – Future Bible Heroes – Bowery Ballroom – Sold out, probably because they thought Stephen Merritt would be appearing with his lo-fi outfit..
Tuesday – 112 – BB Kings – “Peaches And Cream” hip hop boy band
Tuesday – Holy Ghost – Williamsburg Park – Disco kids opening for the dreaded New Order.
Wednesday – P.O.D. – Highline – Best Christian metal band around.
Wedesnday – Smith Westerns – MHOW – I guess the days when they were getting tossed for underage drinking are long gone
Thursday – Bon Jovi – Metlife – This is a band where less is definitely more… if they would just perform half an hour of hits they’d be terrific.
Thursday – Mary Mary – Gospel girl duo with several mainstream hits
Thursday – Paul Weller – Apollo Theater – He was pretty swell when I saw him at Best Buy last year, plus he has taken to encoring with Jam songs
Friday – Sinead O’Connor – Alice Tulley Hall – The Gospel Sessions,,, ’nuff said?
Saturday – Robert Plant – Prospect Park – If he is willing to play with all these nonstarters why not Led Zep?
