Neither The 20/20 Experience nor Magna Carta Holy Grail are personal bests or even particularly great, but JT at his worse is still pretty good and Jay-Z is better than he has been since American Gangster. Jay-Z was off his game last wto times I saw him but he might be great with JT to push him, the last time I saw JT (I mean, not including the Jimmy Fallon show) he was pretty terrific. Of couse, that was eight years ago so he may not still be as great Friday and Saturday night at MetLife.
Monday – Mayer Hawthorne – Bowery Ballroom – Talented blue eyed soul boy
Monday – Mac Miller – Hammerstein Ballroom – Lessee if the white boy can bring the pain
Tuesday – City Opera – Summerstage – Annual showcase of top vocalists
Tuesday – NRBQ – Only Terry Adams remains, but it should be enough
Tuesday – Wire – Bowery Ballroom – Post punk art rockers. Sold out, of course.
Tuesday – Travis Scott – SOB – Worked on both West and Jay-Z’s last album, so this up and comer is worth checking out.
Tuesday – Slaughterhouse – Eminem approved crew killed at Rock The Bells last year.
Wednesday – OMD – T5 – I am actually a little surprised they can fill a room this big.
Thursday – Alice Cooper – Appearances notwithstand, he isn’t that irrelevant!
Thursday – MHOW – The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion – Always a pleasure
Friday – Lil Wayne – Jones Beach – The big time rapper I like least, though that doesn’t mean I don’t like him
Saturday – The Jonas Brothers – Jones Beach – I always liked these guys, I hope they can maintain a career
Sunday – Blake Shelton – Jones Beach – With one of the best albums of the year under his belt the red-red-red-neck should bring it good.
