Active Viewin': Concert Picks For The Week Of April 1st, 2013

Has it been four years since I called Leonard Cohen boring at Radio City Music Hall and got savaged by his many, many fans. Yes, it sure has. I was savaged not least because I wrote that he was a tenor when he is, of course, a bass. I saw Cohen again later in 2009 at MSG and still wasn't convince. And though I quite like Old Ideas, and I am thoroughly enjoying Sylvie Simmons biography "I'm Your Man",  I wonder how I will like him this time around? Saturday, April 6th at Radio City Music Hall.

Monday – Glen Matlock and Sylvain Sylvain – City Winery – Two punk rock journeyman members of the Sex Pistols and the New York Dolls respectively will be a performing an acoustic double header… er?

Tuesday – The Stone Foxes – Mercury Lounge –  Pretty good rock em sock em blues rock band.

Wednesday – Meat Puppets – Mercury Lounge – Early grunge influencers, they were terrific when I saw em at Le Poisson Rouge and should blow you away at this 250 capacity room.

Thursday –  Darween Dweez – Bowery Ballroom – The Brooklyn eccentric popster's latest album is seen as a disappointment but "You Can't Be My Girl" is a pretty damn great song and he is absolutely worth checking out.

Friday – YES – MGM Grand Theater – With the death of their old guitarist Peter Banks recently, maybe they'll be playing some early, early stuff from when before the orchestras took Peter's job

Sunday – Englebert Humperdink – Union County Performing Arts Center – The poor man's Tom Jones will perform "Lovely Is A Man Without Love" if you ask politely.
