A sad loss in music George David Weiss, writer of me and the Magpies song “Wonderful World” as well as classic “Cant Help Falling In Love” and the President Of the Songwiter’s Guild Of America, died Monday at his home in New Jersey. He was 89,
A respected musician as well Weiss worked with the likes of Presley, Sinatra, Como and a boatload of others who require only a sir name to identify.
Collaboration with Broadway musicals including “Mr. Wonderful,” with Sammy Davis Jr., and “Maggie Flynn,” featuring Shirley Jones (c’mon get happy!) earned him Induction into the songwriters hall of fame in 1989.
Weiss turned feelings into words beautifully. Words flowed like heartbeats from this old Corona.
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
A deep loss for the music world, but a legacy lives. Our condolences to those he held dear.
