BUT—— why the bold?! and How do I know Atomic Tom?
Well, back when my old boss, Mike Z, had a very friendly relationship with Shari, an A & R rep at a major record label, we all spent a lot of time talking about them. Are they the next big thing? Are they just another die out pop rock band? Will they last? Will they succumb?
I saw them back at Pianos in NYC before they had garnered a following. There were about 100 people in the venue and Shari and Mike were contemplating a joint management contract with them. They had amazing presence (Atomic Tom, not Shari and Mike) and I knew from that day on I would be hearing about them shortly.
After I told Mike we could no longer work together in a not-so-friendly way, and after he DELETED my BBM from his blackberry (chuckle chuckle BUY AN iPHONE!)- we lost contact. Later, after starting and ending my own boutique music agency and promotion company for a year, I find out that Shari had started to manage Atomic Tom. So… I inquired about a show to which she was not interested.
Years have gone by without a word of Atomic Tom. Since then I have ventured into my own brand of rolling papers, TWEED (www.smokeTWEED.com) which we recently launched a few weeks ago after many ups and downs in the music biz and showbusiness side of entertainment. We have been traveling all over the country selling them out of our backpack at parties, hostels, headshops and music festivals.
Next stop? Kah Bang!!! but OH SHIT! WAIT! is that ATOMIC TOM with 47,000 Facebook Likes playing a key slot on Friday, August 12th in fancy Bangor Maine? YES!!! YES IT IS!!!! How crazy that THIS is the first time I hear about them still at bat?
Well Atomic Tom, not sure if you still work with Shari or Mike Z or whoever BUT– I'll be slanging rolling papers and writing reviews about your show all day on Friday and I CANNOT WAIT! You guys DO rock and I DO love you music and I am super pumped to see how you've grown.
