A Different Kinda Whip It by Helen Bach

Ive been intending to write a piece of fetish bands, but haven’t had the break in my pop punk scene long enough to give it proper attention. Plus its sorta creepy to discuss fetish bands one day and interview a 22 yr old with a blood shot eye the next day… makes me feel sorta skeevy.

Anyway so lets as grown ups cover music that is just considered a tad deviant, or more so.

I absolutely love a band called She Wants Revenge, they had a moderate popularity with the song “Tear You Apart”and my love of a song “These Things”. Now videos will show it intertwined with the film Sin City or Shirley Manson in latex…weird huh.. but listen to the lyrics…cuz they sound filthy. You actually feel like you should maybe wash your hands. Its not ‘right’, its dangerous… its amazing. More for the images they conjure up in just the stark alley strewn monotone of singer Justin Warfield did he rip off Ian Curtis? Do I care? No I want a pair of black patent stilettos and a freakin bull whip. And apparently I got a thing for guys named Justin.

The BDSM scene is an interesting one either Dom or Sub or whatever apparently the music as in any adult scenario can be a huge factor. Not to be confused with the ‘Gothic’ scene fetish music ranges from Enya to Nine Inch Nails, from Gregorian chants to shit that scares me so much I don’t want to type it in case it gives me nightmares.

The ‘gay club scene’ with Ms Gaga and Bronksi Beat (remember THEM!?) are another niche’ area, apparently just a bit more acceptable. But subcultures adopt the strangest heroes don’t they? But aside from Adam and The Ants satirical ‘Beat My Guest’, just about any song can go fetish. Why? cuz as diverse as peoples desires (there are some that get off at the scent of pencil shavings……I’m not kidding) is as diverse and what get them there.

Gothics, DeathRock, Hardcore, Porncore, Devilcore- all fall into the same category of shock all encompass what we have heard before Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osborne, more obscure Ann Magnuson’s Bongwater with their ‘hit?’ Power of Pussy, and ‘Nick Cave Dolls’ was at one time every freaks #1 with a bullet..that just cracked me up Hey Iman remember Club 57?…anyway…Gwar or everyones favorite freak David Bowie.

Devos “Whip It?” Mansons “Personal Jesus”, The Go Go’s ‘We Got The Beat”? Yeah I guess, just as the theme from Barnie could set a fuzzy or a plushie off.

As we begin the ‘week of love’ which culminates this Sunday with Valentines Day I offer you this bruise of a post. Its funny ever since I saw the film Pulp Fiction, true surf music seems risque’, Zeds Dead baby…. Zeds Dead….
