Six years after his death, mystery surrounds Elliott Smiths passing. To paraphrase Linda Thompson: did he jump or was he pushed?
I have contacted the LAPD and I have called Elliott’s PR company but so far haven’t heard back from either.
In the interim, the anonymous comment reader who, along with Larry Crane, is leading rock nyc down this path, has come out of the shadows. I have requested that he, the former anonymous (I am not ready to name him till he okays it), set out the questions and those answers we can provide. He did tell me the the cause of Smith’s death is still open.
Here is an edited version of anon’s email to me yesterday:
“I’m the anonymous person who posted a comment on your blog related to Elliott Smith.
“I have reacted to Larry Crane’s comment because that’s the first time he even said something like that regarding Elliott’s death. I am amazed of the silence of his friends, knowing what I know about the subject.
“I just wanted to say I know a lot about this case without being able to prove anything unfortunately. I talked to the homicide detective who is still in charge. It’s not a cold case, he clearly told me it’s still an open case although they don’t seem to do anything anymore. The detective in charge, PJ Morris (Northeast Detective Division), is not allowed to talk about the case but he was interested to listen to what I had to say.
“If you are interested I can tell you what I know, I am for spreading the truth and I think the silence surrounding his death is not right. If someone like me (who is nobody for Elliott Smith) managed to know what I know, I don’t understand why people close to him (who probably know much more) are not talking. I doubt this case will be solved one day, but the silence of certain people sure did not help.
“I have been thinking about this sad story for 6 years now and l have learnt several disturbing things along these years.”
So I am waiting to see what the gentleman has and if it seems accurate (we don’t want to libel any one) will post it here.
And move on from their.
