Controvery rages in the world of Elliot Smith fans where the less than anticpated re-mastering of two of Smith’s most popular albums, ‘Roman Candle’ and ‘From a Basement on the Hill’, is due to drop April 6th.
Loathed sight unheard (if you see what I mean), “I’m getting pretty much bashed around there on message boards for something nobody’s heard,” Larry Crane tells Spinner. Crane is Smith (who commited suicide at the age of 34) archivest and studio pal.
Crane claims to be just cleaning up, especially on Roman Candle -which wasn’t mastered in the first place.
Still, would you want somebody editing the end of James Joyce’ Ulysses? What’s with the lack of punctuation or paragraphs. Sometimes part of the style of the work is its lack of technique.
