Putting their money where their mouth is, Spice Girls funded their own float according to Scary Spice (who is leaving up to her name nowadays) Melanie Brown.
El Scaro told the UK tab the Daily Mail " "We didn't get paid for the Olympics – we funded it ourselves, costumes and everything. It just goes to show how much we do get on and do like each other." It also shows just how bonkers they are.
By now you and I have long forgotten the London Olympics, but in the UK it will never fade away. For some reason they've convinced themselves it is a date that will live on in history, like 1066 or something.
Which is rather sad because, comon, they don't even have that much music any more. It has been 50 years since the Beatles and their last best chance of anything other than one-offs like Adele was 20 years ago when Brit Pop failed miserably to influence to world music. Brit Pop is to the British Invasion what Tony Blair is to Winston Churchill…
And Spice Girls?Sure they had one hit album but that's all they had. Try as they may Spice Girls can not and did not get it going on again and sure I love "Wannabe" and (I caught em at MSG at the height of Girl Power- they were fun live without being very good live.) but they are more famous for being famous.
So with the UK if not the world watching, it was a way smart business move to insure they looked great and exactly the way they wanted to, even if it meant paying for it themselves. So maybe Girl Power in 2013???
