I became friends with Cheri Dahl on Facebook, and I must admit I find her prickly nature and take no prisoners tude before exhilarating and amusing. Maybe she makes as many fans as she loses?
She also leads an old fashioned hard rocking post-punk band and though they only have one song, the exceptional "R N R Baby Janes" a gorgeous blues rocker which hooks you before the first couplet is over and keeps you for the way too short plus two minutes track. There is a rolling riff which takes you and a beautiful guitar break, only a coupla bars, but it is the icing on the cake. And Cheri's voice is all come and quiet disquiet. It is a greats ong.
Cheri's band is playing at the Delancey on Friday November 30th, 2012, and I am gonna try very very hard to see her. Not only because I like her and I love her sound but also because this is the life blood of rock and roll in nyc. When the Cheris don't bother playing for us, it is over folks.
