As a teenager with the Box Tops, Alex Chilton recorded “The Letter”.
A coupla years later he all but invented power pop with Big Star.
In the early eighties he was the patron saint of Athens, GA, and his influence drifted to the entire pop-rock scene of Alan Betrock and all the Shake records bands.
I am personally devastated.
I feel like crying.
Chilton never made it big but half the bands i love exist because of him.
