I've never had much time for Bon Jovi, a truly lousy band yet bewilderingly successful and popular. It never made any sense to me and they are really a rarity, a band I don't get at any level whatsoever. I think they are just terrible. I took my ex and a niece to see em in 2005 and stood there in astonishment as I could have well fallen off the face of the earth for the amount it mattered to them. But yeah, never did it for me in the slightest and I mention this because if I had to choose between Jon Bon Jovi and Bob Dylan as a father, I would choose Jon.
Appearances may be misleading true, but he appears to be the closest to a normal daddy as possible, married to High School sweetheart, no stories of drugs, violence, mistresses, billy goats, tons of money but a profession. Calls himself Bon Jovi's CEO.
Which begs an answer to the musical question, why did his nineteen year old daughter OD on junk?
Sure, the sins of the father don't NECESSARILY get inherited by the daughter, still, one would hope that a responsible daddy manages to keep his kid
1. Off the poles
2. Off the needle
It doesn't even matter if it has NOTHING to do with Jon, it is still indicative of what it means to grow up in the shoulder of a huge star. My dad was a very successful business, a real hotshot, and his shadow has bothered me all my life. I've never felt I lived up the expectations place on me. It is a nightmare. I can just imagine how it feels when your absentee father is worshipped by millions. Always on TV, always on the road, can't go for a stroll in the park without a world of people demanding his time. You are one of many, the most important relationship of a young girls world is devastated thru absence and otherworldly fame. Forget about an Elektra complex, it is a haunting bizarre nightmare for a child.
Nobody seems to do that well and even if they do we don't really know about it.
