Winner – Robbie Williams – 2012 wasn’t going to be Robbie Williams year. Take That band member Gary Barlow was all over the Olympics, having tea with the Queen here, getting MBE’d there, at the top of the charts everywhere. Meanwhile, Robbie’s record company was telling him perhaps Robbie was too old for pop music and Radio One was refusing to play his new single “Candy” (still not out in the States by the way) . But the 38 year old superstar proved that OBEs and ignorant ageism notwithstanding, Robbie is still the English superstar to beat and both single and album are at the top of the UK charts.
Loser – Madonna – rock nyc writer Cathy Dupuis advises me that Madonna hit the MSG stage at 11pm last night. If you had a General Admission ticket and got in line an hour before the doors opened, you would have been waiting five hours for the nasty piece of work. If you are just Joe Blow, she’d have blown her presumed arrival date by two hours. And since all Madonna offered up was the same old lean mean two hour set, it ended at 1am. What a nasty old hag she is
