The Horror Of Political Endorsement And Rock Music

Why would you settle for being a Republican or Democratic cheerleader when you could be yourself and really, I mean, really help people. The question plagues me when it comes to Bruce Springsteen. What does he gain from being buddies with politicians, I can’t see anything at all. And what he loses, what he has lost, is his position as an honest man, the people’s man. The real people’s voice who really, if he could remember that far back, might remember that whoever is in power, things are always going to suck for people of a certain means and if Springsteen thinks supporting the democratic partyline is gonna help those people who cares so much about, why hasn’t it?

Sure, I hold Springsteen to a higher  level of accountability than I do Jon Bon Jovi. When I hear Jon pays minimal property on his taxes I think what a scumbag and move on and when I hear Bruce does the same thing, I am shocked. I am also shocked he doesn't’t feel it necessary to address the charges, suggesting a hubris, egotism that infects everything the man touches. Starting with his three and a half hour concerts.

And when ted Nugent and Kid Rock support the Republican ticket, I think what idiots but I don’t really care, and when Bruce supports the Democratic ticket, I think, wow, how tone deaf to the way people actually exist to take a voice that speaks so deeply to many other people and waste it on political lies.

The myth of Bruce was bigger than party politics. The son of a blue collar worker who took his Daddy issues and placed it on the biggest stage of all, who spoke not just for him and his people but for all of us, everyone born to, as Chuck D recently put it, run till its dark. And Bruce took all these good feelings, this stuff, this position, that money can't buy, that politicians can't get that nobody else has. Maybe Lennon. But even Dylan doesn't have it. And he destroyed it for no reason whatsoever.

Springsteen's people are as likely to be Republicans as anything else, more in many cases. You might think it is stupid, but the blue collar tend to share the Republicans vision of family values. Why would Bruce insult these people, what is gained by it? He is wrong as well. Conceptually, it is a minefield. The Democrats aren't CORRECT about everything. They absolutely don't grasp the place between a man and his country the way Republicans do. If I won;'t pledge allegiance to a political party, if I can deal with ambivalence, why can't Bruce with much better reasons, with the force of a world view around him, in his DNA, get it.
